The Short Answer

The DWP raised the fee for a GP's PIP factual report from £33.50 to £53.50 on 1 October 2026, and PIP payments do not change. The new figure is in the DWP's guidance for healthcare professionals. The PIP assessment provider asks for the report when it believes more evidence will help its advice, and the GP should return it within 5 working days. PIP rates, eligibility and the assessment rules are unchanged. Claimants do not need to do anything.

What this means for your payments

  • Who is affected: GPs and practice nurses who complete the PIP GP factual report. No PIP claimant's award changes.
  • What changes to your money or your payment date: nothing. For 2026/27 the daily living part stays at £76.70 or £114.60 a week, and the mobility part at £30.30 or £80.00 a week.
  • From when: the new fee appears in the DWP guidance updated on 1 October 2026.
  • What you need to do: nothing. The assessment provider asks your GP for the report. You do not request it yourself.

What Changed

The fee payable to a GP for a PIP factual report rose by £20.00, from £33.50 to £53.50. The DWP published the change on GOV.UK on 1 October 2026. Its change note reads: "Updated the fee payable to Healthcare Professionals for PIP GP (Factual report)."

The fee sits in a DWP table of forms that healthcare professionals may be asked to complete. The PIP hospital report and the DLA and Attendance Allowance report kept the same fee.

The same update replaced references to forms ESA50 and UC50 with a new form, WCA50. That change concerns Universal Credit and ESA. It does not affect PIP.

What the PIP Factual Report Asks Your GP

The report asks your GP for facts from your clinical record, not for an opinion on whether you should get PIP. The DWP guide states: "We are looking for facts, not opinion, with the date of the observation."

The form has 9 numbered questions. They cover:

  1. your health conditions and when each one started
  2. the history of each condition, including whether it is mild, moderate or severe
  3. symptoms, and how they vary from day to day and over longer periods
  4. relevant findings from examinations
  5. current and planned treatment, including aids and medication
  6. the effect of your conditions on the 12 PIP activities, if the GP knows it
  7. any history of threatening or violent behaviour
  8. whether you can travel to an assessment centre
  9. any other relevant information

The 12 activities are the same ones the assessment scores, from preparing food to moving around. How PIP Assessments Are Scored explains how each activity turns into points.

A GP may ask a practice nurse to complete the report. The guide states that no fee is payable to NHS doctors working in hospital for a PIP factual report.

Who Can See the Report

You can normally see the report, because the DWP makes it available to patients on request or if they appeal. The only exception is "harmful information", which the guide defines as anything that would harm the patient's health if they knew it.

The DWP gets your consent before it asks your GP for information. The guide states that the Access to Medical Reports Act 1988 does not apply to benefit reports. Your GP does not have to show you the report before sending it.

How the report fits into the wider claim is covered in the pip health assessment guide.

Legal Status

The fee is set in DWP guidance, published on GOV.UK on 1 October 2026. The guidance is titled "DWP factual medical reports: guidance for healthcare professionals". It is an administrative fee. It does not alter the PIP descriptors or the PIP rates, which are set in regulations.

What Has Not Changed

PIP rates, eligibility, the 12 assessment activities and the points needed for an award are unchanged. The rates for 2026/27 are:

PIP partStandard weekly rateEnhanced weekly rate
Daily living£76.70£114.60

The DWP has not announced a further change to the fee or a date for its next review. The current figure is the one in the DWP fee table on GOV.UK.
