The Short Answer
The Motability car list is the Scheme's range of cars, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles, scooters and powered wheelchairs, each leased for the enhanced PIP mobility rate plus any Advance Payment, and it changes every 3 months. The weekly cost is fixed for every vehicle: the enhanced PIP mobility rate, £80.00 a week, exchanged in full. What varies between cars is the one-off Advance Payment, which runs from nil to several thousand pounds. Motability states that prices on each new quarterly list can go up or down.
What Cars Are on the Motability Scheme?
Cars, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs), scooters and powered wheelchairs, all leased through one Scheme. Motability describes the offer as using "your qualifying mobility allowance to lease a new car, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV), scooter or powered wheelchair".
One lease runs at a time. Motability states that you "cannot lease a car or WAV and a scooter or powered wheelchair at the same time because you can only have one lease on the Scheme at a time".
| Vehicle type | Lease length | Mileage for orders from 1 July 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Car | Three years | Up to 30,000 miles |
| Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle | Five years | Up to 50,000 miles |

Electric cars are on the list. For an electric car, Motability states: "We'll arrange a home chargepoint and a standard installation as part of your lease, or give you access to the bp pulse network of over 9,000 public chargepoints."
What Actually Varies Between Cars
Not the weekly cost — only the Advance Payment. Every vehicle on the Scheme costs the same each week, because the whole enhanced mobility allowance is exchanged. At 2026/27 rates that is £80.00 a week, or £320.00 every four weeks, paid to Motability instead of into your account.

The Advance Payment is the one-off sum at the start of the lease that covers the difference between what the allowance funds and what the vehicle costs. It is the only number that distinguishes one car from another financially.
The Advance Payment Bands
Motability groups the list into bands, and prices sit across the whole range. The bands below are the ones the Scheme's own search filters use, with prices observed on the July to September 2026 list. Every car on the list comes with the same mileage and hand-back rules, which changed for orders from 1 July 2026.
| Band | What it covers | Observed on the July to September 2026 list |
|---|---|---|
| Nil Advance Payment | The allowance covers the whole lease | Several models at £0 |
| Under £500 | Small and mid-size cars, some hybrids | From £95, with examples at £199, £249 and £349 |
| £500 to £1,500 | Larger family cars and SUVs | Examples at £699 |
| Above £1,500 | Premium models, larger SUVs, most electric cars | Examples from £3,499 to £6,049 |

Those figures are a snapshot of one quarter's list, taken on the date stamped above. They show the shape of the pricing rather than the price of any particular car, and they will move at the next release.
For the same list, Motability's own announcement states: "There are also over 30 vehicles with no Advance Payment." It names the Kia Stonic, Mazda CX-30 and Nissan Juke among them.

How Do You Search the Motability Car List?
Online first, then through a Scheme dealer, who places the order. Motability sets out the final step as: "Once you've had a test drive and you've found a vehicle you like, visit a Motability Scheme dealer and they'll order it for you."
- Check the award letter: the Scheme needs a qualifying mobility allowance with at least 12 months left.
- Search the Scheme's vehicle list on motability.co.uk and filter by Advance Payment band.
- Note the Advance Payment and the mileage allowance shown for the model.
- Book a test drive with a Motability Scheme dealer.
- Let the dealer place the order under the price list in force on the day.

A price is fixed by the list it was quoted under. A quote taken under one quarter's list does not carry over to the next, so the order date matters as much as the model.
When Does the Next Motability Price List Come Out?
Motability states: "Our next price list will be available from 1 October 2026." The July to September 2026 list was published on 1 July 2026, and the Scheme price list changes every three months.

That cycle is why this page carries bands rather than a car-by-car table. A list of individual models and prices would be wrong within weeks of publication, and a wrong price on a page like this costs someone a wasted trip to a dealership. For a specific model, check the Scheme's own search on the day you are choosing.
A car that needs a large Advance Payment this quarter may need a smaller one next quarter, and the reverse is equally true. Where the payment is the obstacle rather than the eligibility, waiting for the next list is a real option. What each quarterly release changes, and what it leaves alone, is tracked in the Motability price list briefing.
What the Weekly Cost Includes
More than the vehicle. Motability states that every lease includes "insurance, servicing, maintenance and breakdown cover", with up to three drivers on the insurance.

New car prices include VAT. Motability states: "If you're looking for a new car on the Scheme, the price you see already includes 20% VAT." Tyres are covered too, with "Up to six tyre replacements, including four for wear and tear over a three-year lease".
Fuel is not included. Mileage allowances depend on the lease length and the order date, and orders placed before 1 July 2026 keep the allowance that applied when they were placed.
Who Can Use the List
Anyone with a qualifying mobility allowance at the enhanced or higher rate and at least 12 months of award left. Motability states: "You need to have at least 12 months left on your allowance if you're applying to join the Scheme."
| Qualifying allowance | Rate needed |
|---|---|
| Personal Independence Payment (PIP) | Enhanced rate of the mobility part |
| Adult Disability Payment (Scotland) | Enhanced rate of the mobility part |
| Disability Living Allowance (DLA) | Higher rate of the mobility part |
| Child Disability Payment (Scotland) | Higher rate of the mobility component |
| War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement | Qualifies |
| Armed Forces Independence Payment | Qualifies |

The driver does not have to be the person receiving the allowance. Up to three drivers can be added to the insurance, which is what makes the Scheme workable for people who do not drive themselves. Attendance Allowance, Carer's Allowance and Employment and Support Allowance do not qualify.
An award with less than a year to run does not qualify, which is worth knowing before a review. Where a review is due, the sequence matters: the new award length is what the Scheme will look at.
Before You Choose
Eligibility, the exchange mechanism and what happens at the end of a lease are set out on the Motability scheme page. The Advance Payment is the number to compare between cars; the weekly cost is the same whichever you pick.
