What Percentage of PIP Appeals Succeed in 2026?
67% of PIP appeals cleared at a tribunal hearing in April to June 2026 were decided in the claimant's favour, up 1 percentage point on the same quarter of 2025. The MoJ counts a decision "in favour" when the original DWP decision is revised in favour of the claimant. In the other 33%, the tribunal upheld the DWP decision.

The PIP rate was higher than for other benefits in the quarter. The MoJ bulletin gives 59% for Disability Living Allowance, 46% for Employment and Support Allowance and 45% for Universal Credit. Across all Social Security and Child Support appeals, 60% of hearings went in the claimant's favour.
How Many PIP Appeals Reached the Tribunal?
The Social Security and Child Support Tribunal received 27,452 PIP appeals in April to June 2026, up from 18,102 in the same quarter of 2025. PIP made up 59% of all the tribunal's receipts and 65% of its disposals. The MoJ marks the latest quarter as provisional.

Appeals cleared without a hearing include cases withdrawn, struck out or superseded before the hearing. Because receipts outran disposals, open PIP appeals rose from 51,485 at the end of June 2025 to 76,377 at the end of June 2026.
How Long Does a PIP Appeal Take?
A PIP appeal cleared in April to June 2026 took a median of 28 weeks from receipt to clearance, and a mean of 36 weeks. A quarter of PIP appeals were cleared within 15 weeks, and three quarters within 58 weeks. GOV.UK states separately that it usually takes at least 6 months for an appeal to be heard.

The mean for all Social Security and Child Support appeals was 3 weeks longer than in April to June 2025. The MoJ notes that these timeliness figures do not yet include disposals handled through Integrated List Assist in the Cardiff region.
Why the DWP and MoJ Figures Differ
The DWP and the MoJ publish different PIP appeal figures because they count different groups over different periods. The MoJ figure of 67% covers PIP appeals cleared at a hearing in April to June 2026. The DWP's PIP statistics of 15 September 2026 give 65% for initial decisions made after an assessment from April 2021 to March 2026 that were cleared at a hearing.
The DWP release names the MoJ statistics as the robust source for appeal volumes. This quarter the MoJ also revised earlier figures. Its disposal counts now include Integrated List Assist cases from the Cardiff region from April 2023. Cases withdrawn or struck out on the day of a hearing now count as disposals at a hearing, with data revised from April 2023.
What Has Not Changed
The statistics change no PIP award, rate or appeal rule. The 67% rate describes 13,123 PIP appeals already decided, not the chance of any one appeal. The time limits are unchanged: GOV.UK states you usually need to appeal within one month of the date of your mandatory reconsideration notice.

What Happens Next
The MoJ lists Tribunals statistics quarterly: July to September 2026 for 10 December 2026 at 9:30am. GOV.UK marks the date as provisional, so it can move. That release will replace the April to June 2026 figures on this page.
