The Short Answer

Motability's price list for October to December 2026 raised the Advance Payment on some cars, and PIP payments do not change. The list has more than 670 cars, and over 60 of them need no Advance Payment or a low one. Motability links the rises to tax changes and higher costs across the car industry. The list applies to applications made from 1 October to 31 December 2026. The enhanced rate of the PIP mobility part stays at £80.00 a week.

What this means for your payments

  • Who is affected: people who apply for a new Motability vehicle between 1 October and 31 December 2026.
  • What changes to your money or your payment date: PIP does not change. Some cars now need a higher one-off Advance Payment than before.
  • From when: applications made from 1 October 2026.
  • What you need to do: nothing, unless you are choosing a new vehicle. Then check the Advance Payment on the current list before you apply.

What Changed

Motability published a new price list on 1 October 2026, and it states that "Advance Payments have gone up on some vehicles this quarter". The list has more than 670 cars. Over 60 of them need no Advance Payment or a low one. Nearly 80 Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) are available with lower Advance Payments.

Motability links the rises to "recent UK Government tax changes and wider pressures across the automotive industry". It also names supply chain issues and the cost of building and maintaining vehicles. It does not say how many cars rose, or by how much.

An Advance Payment is a one-off amount you pay at the start of a lease on some vehicles. It is separate from your PIP mobility payment.

Cars With No or Low Advance Payment

Motability names 8 cars with no Advance Payment and 11 more under £1,500. Car prices include 20% VAT. WAV prices are shown at 0% VAT, because most WAV customers get VAT relief.

Motability also lists 5 cars built in the UK. The Mini Cooper and the Nissan Juke start with no Advance Payment, and the Nissan Qashqai from £249. The Toyota Corolla returns to the Scheme from £2,545, and the electric Peugeot e-Rifter from £4,399.

How the list changes each quarter, and what stays the same, is explained in the Motability Car List guide.

What a New Lease Includes

A new lease includes 10,000 miles a year, insurance, servicing, repairs and breakdown cover. Motability lists these terms for new orders:

  • insurance for up to 3 drivers
  • servicing, repairs and MOTs
  • breakdown cover
  • up to 6 tyre replacements during a car lease, including 4 for wear and tear (WAV leases have their own tyre allowance)
  • a small administration fee if you take the car abroad, except for customers in Northern Ireland

The 10,000 miles a year follows the change for orders placed from 1 July 2026, explained in the July 2026 Scheme changes.

Legal Status

The price list is set by Motability Operations, not by the DWP, and it is not a change in law. Motability states that its prices are valid for people getting the higher rate of the DLA mobility part or the enhanced rate of the PIP mobility part who apply between 1 October and 31 December 2026. It adds that prices "may be subject to adjustments or withdrawal" if the cost of providing the lease changes.

What Has Not Changed

PIP rates and the rules for joining the Scheme are unchanged. You still need a qualifying mobility allowance with at least 12 months left on your award. Who qualifies, and how the Scheme works, is set out in Motability and PIP.

PIP mobility partWeekly rate 2026/27
Standard rate£30.30
Enhanced rate£80.00

Of the two PIP mobility rates, only the enhanced rate qualifies for the Scheme. To see whether your answers might reach it, you can check your mobility points with the calculator.

What Happens Next

Motability states that its next price list will be available from 1 January 2027, and that prices can go up or down.
